JUST DO IT

“Motivation is what gets you started. Habit is what keeps you going.”

- Jim Rohn

There is nothing more that I can’t stand is when someone tells me there is only one way to get things done. See I live by a different code, spiritually, intellectually, and professionally. In my mind, this makes me exempt to negative small talk. Hey you gotta know that usually people tell you what cant be done because they are afraid to put in the work or they are being taken over by the pollution of their subconscious. I say this because, every persons story is unique in it’s own right. We may travel similar paths, but our scientific records (DNA) show us different.

So here is my take… as a artist, I take on many faces. I am a paraprofessional | philanthropist | community advocate | activist | and a host of other cheeky titles. But for the moment, let’s just call me an “other”. See an other is a person who proactively creates from the ground-floor. We do not look for jobs, we seek meaningful communal relationships and networks. We create our own jobs (for lack of better words) that are ultimately fulfilling to us first. I mean, if you don’t like the line of work you are in, then you are doing a great disservice to yourself and the culture of the company you work for. This is not rocket science — this is totally about how to foster healthy self-concepts.

Just follow me for a second… Imagine if you were in a place where, there were social issues, i.e., vulnerable children, underserved women and families, poor literacy skills, workforce development scarcity, nutritional barriers, and the list can go on for miles. Then just think if you could take one of these dynamics and focus hard on building a solution.?. This is the work of a community developer. This is just the professional title that many collegiate investors love to boast. BUT… You really don’t need any specific qualifications to get started.

First things first. What exactly is a community development worker?

According to National Careers Service community development workers help people to improve the quality of life in their local area.

Maybe you are already forging ideas and plans to do this… Guess what that makes you? Well just to make sure… Let’s take a quick poll.

So know that you know some of the things it takes to start a career as a community development worker, you can get started.

  • Find an organization that interest you.
  • Ask where you can be of service.
  • Make sure you are up to date on your finger prints.

And you are ready to go!

I hope this tidbit of info helped you understand that waiting until you are credentialed, smart enough, or popular enough — don’t mean a hill of beans. But what does matter is:

You have a will to serve, an open mind, and the heart to invoke positive change. Once you tackle these simple tasks… You are winning! So as a special treat I want you to enjoy this video from #JimRohn to help you get the motivation you need… to JUST DO IT!
